I’m obsessed with in-home family photography sessions. Capturing the real, the raw, the imperfect is my jam. I think as a mom myself, I have realized how special these type of photos, in particular, will mean later on. We think we will remember the home, the rooms, the mess, the little moments….but will we? Time goes by quickly and I’m figuring out that as I get older, the memories start to fade a little. So lets capture these small moments. The moments in our home that we experience daily. I promise, you will never regret it.

San Diego Newborn Photographer | When a newborn shoot comes together perfectly

We have been absolutely loving our new adventure in Southern California – Encinitas to be exact. I’m not saying it has all been easy, but honestly – all things considered – it has been pretty smooth. We love our neighborhood, the kids school, our church, our new friends. God has blessed this entire transition and I feel so so thankful for all that we have. When we moved here, I knew I wanted to take a photography break. I desperately needed it as I had been shooting full time for eight years. But as the end of 2019 was coming to an end, I started to feel the tug again to break out my camera a little. I booked a few shoots here and truly enjoyed them so very much. So as 2020 is beginning I am so excited for all that is to come. Not only personally, but for my photography business as well!

This is a shoot that is one of my absolute favorite newborn shoots to date. And I actually can’t believe I haven’t blogged it yet! So here you go – sometimes everything just comes together perfectly…the wardrobe, location, light and subject – so I hope you enjoy!

I know so many still might not know, but this past year we made the decision to move to Southern California!! Encinitas area to be exact. It truly has been such an incredible experience. We love Texas, but we were ready for new adventures as a family!! So we sold our home in Dallas, rented a huge truck and my husband drove our belongings out here. The kids finished up their year of school and we all flew out here to start our new lives in California!

Honestly, one of the hardest parts was leaving behind my entire business I had built up over the past 8 years and so many of my clients had become friends. But life is short, and we were ready for what was next. As we settled in here in California, I decided to take a little break before I started my business back up. I wanted to just be a Mom, be with my kids & my husband, enjoy our new little town, and really reflect on everything. I LOVE photography, but it can definitely be exhausting and the last few years, I had been shooting a ton.

Lately though I had been feeling the urge to start back up again. So here I am, starting completely over in a city I didn’t know anyone, trying to build another business from the ground up.

And good thing for you – I’m starting off with mini sessions!! First date is December 8th, just in time to get photos in before the Holidays.

Encinitas Newborn Photographer – These Are The Days to Remember

They really are. The days. They can be a blur, so as a Mom of three myself, all I can say is documenting them is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Lifestyle newborn photography is a huge passion of mine. Documenting those first few days, in your own home…where you play, eat, laugh, sleep, nurse, cry, make memories – there is truly nothing like it. And here is the real deal…

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect. It is your home and you want to remember it exactly at it was. My job is to capture you exactly as YOU are. As your family is. So I know it is hard, but don’t stress about your photography session. Enjoy the process. When you are choosing your outfits, wear something you love – something you feel beautiful in. As the Mom – pick your outfit first and then go off that. If you are wearing a solid color, add a little pattern or color in your children. You can keep it soft and simple. Soft blue hues, or pinks are always beautiful in-home. Add in some texture – lace, corduroy – it really can add dimension to your photos. But at the end of the day, the main thing – really…is for you to be you.

When you do that, it will all come together beautifully. Just have fun, laugh, smile and enjoy the process and I will take care of the rest. Hope you enjoy this in-home lifestyle newborn session.

Senior Photography | Why I love it and keep doing it

I don’t know the last time I blogged about Senior Photography, and I’m so sorry!! I honestly LOVE all of my Senior girls. Yes, I post a ton on motherhood and families, but Seniors truly are such a joy for me to photograph as well. They are always the absolute sweetest, kindest souls. I love getting to know them – where they have traveled to, where they are going for college and why. It just takes me back to such a precious time of life! There is nothing like that time of transition. Where you go to college, or whatever you do after your senior year of high school, literally can shape the rest of your life. I love that Senior photography has become such a big deal these days because it should be celebrated!! Of course, I had my senior photos taken way back when, but they are nothing like the senior photos of today. Mine was done in a dark studio with my letter jacket and a ladder I posed against – ha!

I don’t market my senior business at all really. It is truly just word of mouth and I love that. To be referred from other past Senior clients is such an honor to me. Somehow I get the perfect amount of Seniors every summer and they are my perfect clients!

I’m in love with this particular session because everything just came together so perfectly. The hair, makeup, outfits, lighting and of course the beautiful girl! I hope you enjoy! All hair/makeup by Meagan Bechtel Beauty & Styling

Why I adore lifestyle newborn photography

There is something absolutely magical about lifestyle newborn photography. Getting to capture families in their own safe haven, the place they do life – the place they first bring their babies home to – it is all so beautiful to me. And it is for this very reason I quickly knew I wanted to specialize in this type of newborn photography, and gave up my photography studio altogether.

It is also the reason I decided to quit my full time corporate job, teach myself photography, and start my own full time photography business. See, I am not one of those that dreamed of being a photographer since I was little. In fact, it never even crossed my mind until I had my daughter and hired a newborn photographer myself. Unfortunately that experience was not a good one – from the actual session itself to the entire client experience. But I’m truly so thankful for that now. It is because of that experience, that the idea of becoming a photographer myself entered my mind. I just knew that I could teach myself photography and would make sure my client experience was the absolutely best it could be. I would run my business the way I, as a mother, would want to be treated from start to finish. Fast forward 8 years later, my photography business is thriving and I get to shoot exactly what I love to shoot – newborns and motherhood.

I adore this session in particular because you can actually FEEL the love through the photos. This beautiful couple struggled a very long time with multiple miscarriages, two failed IVF treatments, and miraculously finally conceived naturally. It is truly such an honor to capture images like these for all of my families, as each family has their own special and unique story. So to have a very small part of that, knowing these will be images they will be sure to always cherish, I’m forever grateful.
